  • Historic precedent. Melissa Darden is the first-elected female Chairman of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, with 23 years of Cypress Bayou Casino operations spanning Table Games, Retail, Database Analyst, and Manager on Duty roles.
  • Cypress Bayou GM transition. Mike Howard has been named General Manager of Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel, the first land-based casino in Louisiana with 700-plus slots, table games, and a 19,700 sq ft Pavilion seating 2,000.
  • Cultural-economic standing. Chairman Darden serves on the Scholarship Committee, Election Board, and as a 17-year Lay Advocate in Tribal Courts, and is one of the few last remaining basket weavers of the Tribe.
